From the rising of the sun to its setting
Praised is the name of God. (Psalm 113:3)

The sun represents consciousness. As the light of awareness rises, we are bathed in that radiance and awakened to the presence of the Divine. As our consciousness expands, our lives become an expression of praise for God who is our Creator and who illuminates the truth of our connection to ALL, to BEINGNESS itself.

What a blessing it is to be given a glimpse of the Great Divine Mystery! We can plant that awesome glimpse inside our hearts like a seed, and it will grow within us and blossom as our strength and beauty. When we nurture that seed, it will grow into our wide perspective, protecting us from attitudes of constriction or cynicism.

Wisdom begins in reverent wonder of the One. (Psalm 111:10)

We stand empty and open, before the great Mystery and admit how much we don’t know. There is a choice now: we can either tremble in fear and anxiety before that Mystery or we can lift ourselves up into reverent wonder. It is that place of emptiness that allows us to be filled with wisdom from on high. It is that radical amazement that lets us take the stance of endless curiosity.

Initiation: Atah-chohayn

“You are a priest forever”, according to the word of Malkitzedek. (Psalm 110:4)
[Click (or tap) to see the entire Psalm 110 in Hebrew and English (JPS 1985).]

Malki-tzedek is the mysterious Priest of Ayl Aylyon, God of the Most High, mentioned in Genesis 14, who offers bread and wine to Abraham, initiating him into his calling and spiritual destiny. He becomes for us an archetype of initiatory power that is calling each of us into the fulfilment of our full potential and true purpose. When we chant these words, we are opening to an initiation into our own wholeness.

For I am poor and lowly, and my heart is wounded within me. (Psalm 109:22)
[Click (or tap) to see the entire Psalm 109 in Hebrew and English (JPS 1985).]

I stand before God, the Great Mystery, in humility, opening to the great love. My heart has been pierced by the arrows of this world — by suffering and hatred and lies and cruelty. Into the hollow of that heart wound, I invite God to enter and dwell.
