EFR: Energy Field Re-charge

Elohim y’chaneynu vivarchaynu ya-er panav itanu Selah

God grace us, bless us, may Its light shine among us, Selah (from Psalm 67)

This practice can be used for protection, clearing, and for strengthening the energy field

1st Phase: visualization and energy patterning

  1. Find a point of light deep in your belly and bring it up through the body, out the top of your head till it’s about a foot above your head.
  2. Weave an egg of light clockwise from the point above your head down the body till you reach a point at the bottom of the egg about a foot below your feet.
  3. Pull that point of light up through your perineum back to the beginning point in your belly.
  4. Connect the point in your belly to a point within your heart.
  5. Radiate out from the heart, filling the entire egg with a white/golden light.
  6. End by rooting your attention back in the belly.

2nd Phase: visualization, energy patterning and breath concentration

  1. Find a point of light deep in your belly and bring it up through the body, out the top of your head till it’s about a foot above your head. ON THE INHALATION
  2. 2. Weave an egg of light clockwise from the point above your head down the body till you reach a point at the bottom of the egg about a foot below your feet. ON THE EXHALATION
  3. Pull that point of light up through your perineum back to the beginning point in your belly. ON A PARTIAL INHALATION
  4. Connect the point in your belly to a point within your heart. CONTINUE THE INHALATION
  5. Radiate out from the heart, filling the entire egg with a white/golden light. BREATHING IN AND OUT FROM THE HEART
  6. End by directing the breath into the belly.

3rd Phase: chant, visualization and energy patterning

  1. Find a point of light deep in your belly and bring it up through the body, out the top of your head till it’s about a foot above your head. ELOHIM
  2. Weave an egg of light clockwise from the point above your head down the body till you reach a point at the bottom of the egg about a foot below your feet. Y’CHANEINU
  3. Pull that point of light up through your perineum back to the beginning point in your belly. VIVARCHEY
  4. Connect the point in your belly to a point within your heart. NU
  5. Radiate out from the heart, filling the entire egg with a white/golden light. YA-ER PANAV ITANU
  6. End by rooting your attention back in the belly on the word SELAH.

4th Phase – Chant silently with Breath Concentration

Ashrei

Ashrei yoshvei vetecha od y’hal’luchah

Happy are those that dwell in Your house; they keep on praising. (Psalm 84:5)

Sometimes our perspective gets very narrow. Our view is determined by “small mind” (mochin de-katnut). From this state, the possibilities seem quite limited, and our sense of who we are and where our consciousness can reach is constricted and finite. From this state, it feels quite natural to complain and be filled with despair about the world.

But then it is possible to step into a wider perspective, to expand into “big mind” (mochin de-gadlut). This is called stepping into the “God-house.” By chanting this sacred phrase we can move into a state of consciousness that is wide and spacious. From here we can feel a sense of limitless possibility. We can feel our awareness reach out to the far edges of the universe, as far as the imagination can touch. From this state, it feels completely right to express praise for everything we perceive. Praise becomes our natural way of being in the world.

May we all radiate with the happiness that comes from knowing that we live in the God-House and may praise pour forth from that knowing.

Inviting Our Future Selves: Hodiyeini Yah

Hodiyeini Yah kitzi, u’midat yamai ma hi
Inviting Our Future Selves Hebrew text
Oh God, show me my end, and what is the measure of my days? (Psalm 39:5)

With this chant we can pray for a vision of who we are becoming. At the end of the chant, open up to receive a visit from your future self. Receive her gift, wisdom, guidance or blessing.

Calling Forth the Hidden Power: Kumah Adonai

Kumah Adonai, Hoshiyeyni Elohai

Rise up YHVH, Save me, my God. (Psalm 3:8)

With this practice, I call forth the hidden power. I sing to the force that is hidden in my depths and in the secret places of this world. I sing with a bold demand and with a humble plea for that force to reveal itself. As I chant, I dedicate myself as a vessel for that power. I pray to be saved from the traps of superficiality. I pray to have access to depths of meaning and purpose rather than be a prisoner to the surface of things.

This practice was composed especially as a preparation for the High Holy Days.

Protecting Our Inner Child: Ki chizak

Ki chizak b’richay sh’arayich, Bayrach baniyich b’kirbaych

When your boundaries are strong, your inner child is blessed. (Psalm 147:13)

There is a place inside each of us that is young and fragile and innocent. Part of our spiritual practice is to protect and honor that part of ourselves. When we protect her from our own cynicism and from the harshness of the world, she is nurtured from within and blessed with the space to feel safe. When she doesn’t feel that safety, the inner child is apt to “act out” in destructive ways… just to get our attention.
